This is the Chinese Mainland-based Team Registration Form for the 12th Shanghai International Debate Open 2026 @SUFE from March 20th to 22nd. It is an in-person event. If you are registering Non-Chinese-Mainland-based Teams, please refer to the Google Form at:

SIDO 2026 is a heavily-sponsored event, with our university funds allocated to subsidize the registration fee for university debaters, and to sustain a high-quality judging pool, which comprises breaking adjudicators and top debaters from international majors including, but not limited to, World University Debating Championship, World School Debating Championship, European University Debating Championship, United Asian Debating Championship, Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championship, Asian BP Debating Championship, and Northeast Asian Debating Championship.
Please adhere to the instructions indicated below or you or your team may not be granted the opportunity to participate in our event:
1. Declaration of Authentic Identity of Contact Person and Debatersa) Under the regulation of the Shanghai University of Finance & Economics (SUFE), you are required to state
your real name (as stated in your passport) and passport number as a Contact Person when registering your team(s). If you are Chinese, please state your name in Chinese characters and please state your Chinese Citizen Identity Card Number.
b) As a requirement of the Shanghai University of Finance & Economics (SUFE), the debater's real name would also be required when submitting the Team Information Collection Form after we have confirmed your team slot(s).
You or your team may be disqualified from our event if the information given to us is found to be not authentic.If you have any specific concerns, please write an email to our Organizing Committee at this email address:
shanghaisido@163.com 2. Anyone could partner anyone to form a BP team.3. This is a tournament for both university and school debaters:
a) There will be 6 Preliminary Rounds.
b) The 150 BP teams will compete in 6 Preliminary Rounds based on a power-matching arrangement. The top 16/32 Open Teams will break into the Open Quarter/Octo Finals and the top School Teams in different brackets will break into the corresponding School Outrounds
(The break size will be decided based on the number of teams registered in each age brackets).c) Preparation Time is 15 minutes, after the announcement of the debate motion (and a few minutes for clarification by debaters) for each round.
d) SUFE has allocated sponsorship funding to subsize debaters of the university category. So the registration fee for the Open Category teams is at a heavy discount.
Registration Fee for all Open Teams: 1400RMB (or 200USD) per team
Registration Fee for all School Teams: 2500RMB (or 350USD) per team
4. There is no need to bring a Team Judge (N=0).5. Team slot allocation is primarily based on a first-come, first-served basis, with an eye to diversity and good representation from as many debate communities as possible.
6. The Phase 1 Registration of Teams starts from today (10th November 2025) and ends on 1st January 2026, 11.59pm, UTC+8. Teams will be informed on or before January 10th on the results of their application to compete in our event. We will keep our registration form open until we reach our team cap. When the team cap is reached, we will not open Phase 2 registration. All team registration will be completed before February 28th 2026 to allow us enough time to assist adjudicators to apply for their visa and other necessary documents. Thank you!
